A day after their surprising defeat against Everton, English Premier League leading Chelsea received more bad news Thursday with the announcement that starting defender Ashley Cole will likely miss the rest of the season with a fractured ankle:
Chelsea’s Ashley Cole Likely Out For Season
Chelsea’s England defender Ashley Cole is expected to be sidelined for about three months after fracturing his left ankle in Wednesday’s defeat at Everton, the London club said on their website (www.chelseafc.com).
The 29-year-old fullback is likely to miss the rest of the Premier League season, which ends on May 9, and faces a race to be fit for the World Cup in South Africa starting on June 11.
Cole injured the ankle in a challenge with Everton’s Landon Donovan, who, interestingly enough would be on the pitch for the US in that June 11th match against Cole’s England team. This is definitely an injury that both English and American fans should watch closely in the months leading up to South Africa.
