After 22 years in the big leagues, Tom Glavine is calling it quits. He has accepted invitation from the Braves to serve as a special assistant to the team's president, John Schuerholz.
Tom Glavine Retires After 22 Seasons
When he meets with the media at Turner Field on Thursday afternoon, Glavine is expected to officially announce that he has ended any thoughts about throwing another pitch at the Major League level. His 305 career wins stand as the fourth-most recorded by a left-handed pitcher.
In January, Glavine told MLB.com that he was contemplating this opportunity. At the same time, he confirmed that his retirement was all but official.
Glavine walks away from the game after 305 wins and 4,400-plus career innings. Glavine seems like a lock for Cooperstown once the Hall comes knocking in five years.
