Kurt Busch Wonders: Where’s The Love?

Kurt Busch settled in for his media availability on Friday when a reporter asked the NASCAR moderator whether the press conference would be transcribed.

↵Upon being told it was not, Busch chimed in, “If Danica was in here, would it be transcribed?”

↵That got a laugh from the media corps, but his joke had a lot of truth: If Danica Patrick was in the interview seat, her session would have been given the full treatment (and with a lot more reporters in attendance, too).

↵On that topic, Busch was asked why he’s never really been embraced by race fans.

↵And really, he isn’t sure.

↵“Sometimes things get misconstrued when it comes out of my mouth, and I guess that’s why I haven’t really connected to the race fans as easily as I should,” he said. “I love racing. I came from nothing with very humble beginnings.”

↵Busch reminded the media that he used to sit in the grandstands at Las Vegas and Phoenix as a race fan, but got an “unique opportunity to drive a car.”

↵“I still haven’t figured out why I haven’t quite connected,” he said, “because I am one of them.”
