UNC’s Ed Davis Likely Done For Season; Out Six Weeks With Broken Wrist

Well, if North Carolina's basketball season wasn't a catastrophe before, it certainly is one now. Star forward Ed Davis will likely be sidelined the rest of the season, as he will sit out six weeks due to a broken wrist, according to Scout.com.

According to reports, tests revealed no ligament damage and no surgery is planned at this time. Still, Davis will have his wrist immobilized for the next six weeks, which will probably mean he will the rest of UNC’s season.

Davis hurt the wrist midway through the second half of UNC’s loss to Duke on Wednesday when he fell to the floor during a collision. He had his wrist taped up, and came back into the game after the injury, but he was held scoreless the rest of the way.

Davis was averaging 13.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game for the Tar Heels. The second-year big man was key to faltering North Carolina’s, albeit slim, hopes of getting their season back on track, and his absence for the rest of the regular season might put the .500 record necessary for an NIT berth even in jeopardy.

The bigger question for Roy Williams and the North Carolina faithful is whether they have seen Davis play his final game in the powder blue. Davis was projected as a lottery pick last season -- some scouts had him as high as number two on their boards -- and although his stock as slipped this season with UNC’s troubles, Davis would still be a high pick this season. Whether his season being curtailed by injury makes him more likely to go pro is an open question.
