Hello NIT: Cincinnati Dispatches UConn In Calhoun’s First Game Back

Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - Lance Stephenson scored 14 points to lead the Cincinnati Bearcats to a 60-48 win over the Connecticut Huskies in Big East play at the XL Center.

Ibrahima Thomas recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds for Cincinnati (15-9, 6-6 Big East), while Deonta Vaughn also scored 10 in the win.

Coach Jim Calhoun returned to the UConn (14-11, 4-8) sideline after missing the last three weeks with an undisclosed medical condition. The Huskies were 3-4 during Calhoun’s absence, and they’ve now lost five of their last six games.

Kemba Walker led the Huskies with 14 points, while Jerome Dyson scored 13, and Stanley Robinson and Gavin Edwards finished with 10 apiece.

UConn grabbed its largest lead at six with 6:19 remaining until halftime. The Huskies held Cincinnati to 9-of-31 shooting (.290) from the floor in the opening half, but they went into intermission with the score tied, 22-22.

The Huskies shot just 9-of-30 (.300) from the floor in the second stanza, as the Bearcats pulled away in the final minutes.

Cincinnati held a 46-32 rebounding advantage for the game. The Bearcats grabbed 19 offensive boards, which led to a 14-7 edge in second-chance points.
