Finland Defeats Russia 5-1 In First Round Robin Game For Each Team

Third ranked Finland took care of business against Russia with a 5-1 at UBC Thunderbird Arena. Nina Tikkinen scored both goals in the third period to cement the first win for the Finnish team in this Olympics.

Finland dominated much of the game by outshooting Russia 34-14 and after taking a handful of penalties in the first and second periods, Finland settled down and did not take any penalties in the third period. Russia was only able to capitalize on one of the powerplay opportunities while Finland scored two powerplay goals.

Finland will face off against China on Tuesday February 16th while Russia will face off against the United States on Tuesday.
