Jamie McMurray kicks gas and comes out the winner in the Daytona 500

I didn’t get to see a lot of the Daytona 500 this year because of some unforeseen circumstances but I did get to see several important incidences like some of the wrecks, the hole, and Jamie McMurray’s win.

Once Jamie crossed that finish line I bet he was saying to himself, “Eat that Jack!” In reference to Jack Roush letting him go at the end of the season because Jack had to downsize to 4 teams from 5 due to NASCAR’s new owner restrictions of no more than 4 teams.

To be honest McMurray was the obvious choice to be let go by Jack as his team never lived up to its potential at Roush/Fenway, but I also think Jamie’s team never got the same attention as the other 4 Roush teams did. This is just an opinion, not fact as I don’t work for Roush/Fenway and I don’t know anyone who does, but yet that also seems to be the perception of those NASCAR fans that I hang around the water cooler with at work too.

Redemption for McMurray in this case is an in “your face four letter word” possibly followed by a you.

My favourite moment was when Jamie was crying in Victory Lane. Many hours earlier in the pre-race show Jamie was talking about seeing Matt Kenseth crying in Victory Lane last year and how he understood that because The Daytona 500 is The Great American Race and it is that important. To see Jamie in Victory Lane crying like that showed me that he meant what he said. And what we saw was some of the best reality television I’ve seen in a long time.

Jamie Twittered around 10:00 pm EST this:

"Oh my god! I can't believe it. The Daytona 500. Here is a pic of the trophy in my bus. http://tweetphoto.com/11453233" (Not a bad looking picture I must say - 4ever3)

I’ll have more on the race later along with my opinion of Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s performance(s) this weekend - I must tend to a sick child right now.
