Titans Punter Craig Hentrich Announces Retirement After 17 Seasons

“The decision to retire came from old age,” Hentrich said in a released statement. “It’s just been a ton of injuries the last three or four years. I think it’s just my body telling me it’s time to quit. I’ve been doing this for 17 years in the league and really 32 years of my life kicking footballs. I think my body is just tired. I am going finish rehabbing my knee and then enjoy some downtime, while I evaluate what challenge waits next for me.”

Hentrich played a total of 241 games throughout his career, registering 1,150 punts with a career average of 42.9 yards, and a career net average of 36.8 yards. His 399 punts inside the 20 ranks second all-time in NFL history.

“[I’ve considered retiring] probably about the last three years, but I’ve always felt like I could get one more in and still do a good job for them,” Hentrich said. “When I signed a six-year contract, my whole goal was just to finish that contract out. I’ve got one more year, but it all ended up for the best.”
