As I’m sure everyone is aware, college baseball started today, and --
Tiger Woods Overshadows College Baseball Opening. Well, Sort Of
↵Oh, you haven’t heard? You’re unaware of the opening weekend Top 25 matchup between Baseball America No. 3 Virginia and No. 18 East Carolina? Or the also-anticipated series between No. 5 Rice and Stanford?
↵That’s probably par for the course. Despite its increasing popularity, college baseball largely remains lost in the shuffle, particularly starting as it does in the middle of the NBA, the final stages of the run to March Madness and, this year, the Winter Olympics. (Not to mention the fact that many Major League fans have trouble following the game because the bats go “Ping!” -- being made of aluminium and not wood.)
↵So all that was already going against opening weekend -- and now Tiger Woods decides to stage his first post-broken-window non-statement on the first day of the season.
↵Sure, no one expects college baseball’s first series to ever be the lead story on SportsCenter or anything. But leaving enough oxygen for one of the least-noticed sports might be nice.
