Everything was going so well for Jamie McMurray.

↵Seven days after he won the Daytona 500, McMurray capped a whirlwind week by starting from the pole for the Auto Club 500 but ended up with a 17th-place finish.

↵He quickly got out of his car and left the track following the race, but crew chief Kevin “Bono” Manion stood next to the team hauler by himself and stared up at the scoring pylon.

↵“It was just too tight all day,” Manion said. “We made it really free and it actually ran well the last couple runs. But something didn’t agree with that last set of tires. We went straight backward.”
