We have heard this story all too often in college sports right? An opposing fanbase gets a hold of a star player’s phone number and proceeds to inundate him with taunts and harassment. (DeMarcus Cousins may have had all of his anytime minutes used up by Miss State fans last week.) So when Mike Davis says that he received an anonymous phone call from a weird area code, you expect it to be bad, not a forty five minute conversation that convinces Davis to play better.
Mike Davis Inspired By Anonymous Caller, Totally Not Me.
↵↵Someone just called and talked some sense into me and said ‘Get back to what you do.’ … This guy called just man-to-man talking and said ‘You have so much ability. Don’t let it go to waste. Don’t let it slip out of your hands.’ He’s been watching me the last two years and knows how I play.
↵↵Goodwill? Encouragement? In college basketball? What is the world coming to?
↵Oddly enough, it seems to have worked as Davis broke out of his long funk on Saturday with 16 points, 12 boards and 5 blocks against now #3 Purdue. Sadly for Illini fans (namely me) it was not enough to win. I wonder how long Bruce Weber can keep up the act that it wasn’t him who called Davis all along?
