CNBC’s Darren Rovell just tweeted thusly ...
USA Vs. Canada: Should NBC Have Aired It On The Mothership?
↵
↵8.2M viewers watch USA-Canada on MSNBC. Record MSNBC night was 8.23M for 11/4/08 election coverage.
↵
↵This sparked a debate in the virtual halls at SB Nation HQ: Did NBC make the right decision by showing USA-Canada on MSNBC instead of airing it on the mothership? As you certainly won’t recall because you’re ALL MAN and were watching hockey, NBC opted to show Ice Dancing on regular NBC Sunday night.
↵The argument in favor of NBC’s decision: Middle America loves Dancing With The Stars, American Idol, etc. Ice Dancing appeals to a similar demographic as these shows. Therefore, duh, why wouldn’t they show people dancing around in outfits such as:
↵
↵The argument against NBC’s decision: This was USA-Canada, Ice Dancing is ridiculous (see: photo above), and the hockey game did extremely strong ratings despite being shown on a cable news network. It’s not as if NBC was showing one of the marquee events instead of hockey.
↵So, AMERICA, what say you? Would the hockey game have done better ratings than Ice Dancing had it been on NBC? And am I just really bitter because DirecTV doesn’t get MSNBC in HD? (Yes. Yes I am. But seriously, look at that freaking outfit.)
