ESPN’s Adam Schefter is following his ESPN counterpart and reporting that Saints S Darren Sharper will not be given the franchise tag.
One More Time: Saints Will Not Franchise Tag Darren Sharper
ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli was the first to report this last week but that was met with plenty of skepticism from the sports reporting world (including Schefter).
Sharper had previously expressed an interest in signing a long-term deal with the Saints.
Sharper was instrumental in the Saints Super Bowl run and is also a fan favorite. I suspect they’ll attempt to re-sign him but will allow free agency to determine his value.
Sharper, 34, could be a valuable asset in a watered-down version of free agency.
