More bad news for the slumping Texas Longhorns. Point guard Dogus Balbay will miss the rest of the season after tearing his left ACL during Texas' win over Texas Tech on Saturday, according to Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports.
Texas Guard Dogus Balbay Tears ACL, Out For Season With Injury
While Balbay’s poor shooting oftentimes makes him an offensive liability, he is an outstanding perimeter defender, and his 3.9 assists per game led the team. Balbay, originally from Turkey, started 22 games for Texas this season.
Balbay’s injury comes at an especially difficult time for a Texas team struggling to rediscover its rhythm. After beginning the season 17-0 and climbing to No. 2 in the polls, Texas has fallen off recently, losing six of ten games, to fall to a tie for seventh in the Big 12.
Senior guard Justin Mason picked up Balbay's minutes during Saturday's game against Texas Tech, although head coach Rick Barnes has not announced a decision on who will take Balbay's place in the starting lineup.
