We’re not calling Cole Aldrich stupid or anything. He seems like a highly capable student and a 3.32 GPA is pretty impressive, particularly when you consider his responsibilities as a star for the Kansas Jayhawks. It’s pretty solid.
Grading On A Curve Here: Cole Aldrich Headlines Academic All-Americans
↵But come on. It was a 3.32 in Communication Studies. He was named Academic All-America of the Year. And... Seriously? That’s the best we have to offer?

I was a comm major with 3.33 GPA, and let me tell you: I did NOT deserve any academic recognition. And I know what you’re thinking: “But you didn’t ALSO play for an elite college basketball team.” And this is true. My biggest responsibilities were managing an intense video game schedule and making it to class on Fridays despite hangovers. But college athletes have a team of tutors dedicated to helping them keep pace in their classes. That mitigates most of the disadvantages. (If anything, the hungover video game addicts need tutors. Ya know?)
↵It’s not that 3.3 is bad, but... It’s Communication Studies, not Chemistry. Is that really the best student-athlete in all of college basketball? Over at Oxford, Myron Rolle is not impressed.
