Canada showed that they are still Team Canada with an 8-2 win over Germany Tuesday night in a Men’s Hockey Qualification game.
Canada Cruises Past Germany, Will Face Russia In Quarterfinals
Jarome Iginla scored two goals while Mike Richards, Joe Thornton, Rich Nash, Sidney Crosby, Shea Weber and Scott Niedermayer all scored one goal each. German goals were scored by Manuel Klinge and Marcel Goc. The Canadians outmatched a German team that will not win a game in these Olympics.
Canada outshot the Germans 39-23, including a 14-4 first period. The Germans looked overwhelmed for most of the game, while Canada showed why they are still a team that will contend for gold heading into the quarterfinals.
Canada converted on one of two powerplay chances while Canada was perfect on the penalty kill.
The rival Russians are up next on Wednesday night. This game was expected to be a matchup for the gold medal, not a quarterfinal game. The loser of this game is not going to be eligible for a medal, which is shocking in its own right.
