VIDEO: Slovakia Forward Lubos Bartecko’s Gruesome Head Injury

During last night’s late men’s hockey game between Slovakia and Norway, Slovakian forward Lubos Bartecko took a brutal elbow to the head from Ole-Kirstian Tollefsen as he carried the puck up the left side of the ice. The hit knocked his helmet loose and off, and as he fell he was spun around by another Norwegian player. The back of his head slammed onto the ice, and instantly began to bleed profusely.

Check out the video, while you can -- NBC will likely have it removed at some point. (WARNING: there are some disturbing images in the video, as you may have guessed):

Perhaps the most striking part of the video is seeing a teammate trying to stop the bleeding with his own bare hand while waiting on medical personnel to arrive.

Bartecko was treated on the ice for 10 minutes before being taken off on a stretcher. He is listed this morning as being in stable condition, and is being treated at the clinic at the Athletes village.

Tollefsen was given 25 minutes in penalties, which also include an automatic match penalty for a hit to the head.
