No. 20 Temple Bursts Dayton’s Bubble

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Ramone Moore scored 13 points and 20th- ranked Temple overcame a rough shooting performance to beat Dayton, 49-41, as the Owls held the Flyers to their lowest point total since 1997.

Ryan Brooks added 11 points for the Owls (23-5, 11-2 A-10), who moved into a tie with Richmond atop the Atlantic 10 Conference. Lavoy Allen chipped in nine points and 17 rebounds for Temple, which won its fourth straight contest.

Temple shot just 32.1 percent from the field, but Dayton was worse at 26.3 percent.

Chris Wright scored 12 points and had 13 rebounds for the Flyers (18-9, 7-6), who have lost two in a row. This was their lowest scoring game since Jan. 18, 1997 when they were beaten by George Washington, 59-38.

Moore hit a pair of free throws with 1:04 left for a 44-38 lead, and Juan Fernandez then came up with a steal, leading to one foul shot by Luis Guzman.

Rob Lowery banged in a three-pointer for a 45-41 difference with 39.9 on the clock, but Brooks made a free throw. A Guzman steal led to Brooks' layup with 25.8 seconds left to seal the victory.

It was a horrendous first half for both clubs, but the Owls held a 19-13 edge after 20 minutes. Dayton went 5-of-31 from the field in the first half, while the Owls were 9-of-31.

A Fernandez free throw expanded Temple’s lead to 40-29 with four minutes remaining.

Temple leads the all-time series, 15-11, but the Flyers had won the previous three meetings...Lowery was next on Dayton’s scoring list with seven points...Guzman had seven assists.
