Barring a trade, it appears Reggie Bush will be a Saint next season. According to a report from NFL Network (via NBC's Evan Silva), New Orleans is "not even contemplating" releasing Bush this offseason.
Report: Saints Will Not Release Reggie Bush
Back in December there were rumors that the Saints would part ways with Bush this offseason due to his massive salary. As part of his rookie deal as the No. 2 pick in the 2006 draft, Bush is owed $8 million next season, and his cap number will be $13 million. Even in a potentially uncapped year, the Saints were reportedly wary of spending that much money on the tantalizingly talented but inconsistent (and frequently injured) former USC star.
While paying the team’s second-best running back that much money is certainly an extravagance, there’s perhaps added pressure to keep their roster intact coming off their Super Bowl win, as well as increased financial flexibility. Still, there is a chance the Saints could merely be looking to trade Bush if they think there’s a decent market for him.
