Nevada Basketball Team Stuck In Hawaii Hotel, Awaiting Tsunami
↵We will point out, however, that the disaster is about to have a very direct effect on at least two American sports teams. The Nevada Wolfpack are in Hawaii as we speak, with the intention to face the Warriors in men’s basketball tonight. With tsunami waves expected any second, that’s obviously not going to happen; the game has been canceled. As for the Wolfpack, they’re taking no chances:
↵↵Just spoke with Nevada coach David Carter - whose entire team is on the 26th floor of its hotel and waiting for the tsunami to hit Hawaii. Carter, whose game later tonight has been canceled, is nervous - but says the natives are still on the beach and on the streets. Carter said that the tsunami is scheduled to hit about 5:30 p.m. ET. ``No one can leave or enter the hotel.”
↵↵Nobody can leave, that makes sense, but nobody can enter? What’s up with that?
↵You can’t blame Carter for his trepidation; tsunamis aren’t exactly high on a Nevadan’s typical list of natural fears. But even as a potentially destructive 6-foot tsunami wave looms--and make no mistake, a six-foot wave would cause extensive damage--the 26th floor is probably more than 20 floors above the line of safety.
