Canada secured its 11th gold medal of the Olympics with a thrilling, 0.29 second-win against the United States in the final of men’s team pursuit speed skating.
The winning team of Mathieu Giroux, Lucas Makowsky, and Denny Morrison met their goal in 3:41.37. Interestingly, the bronze medalists of the Netherlands performed their medal round run in less time, recording a scorching 3:39.95. But since they weren’t in the finals to begin with, they don’t get the gold, because like the biathlon and Bob Costas’ hair, nothing makes sense in the Winter Olympics.
