Curling: Switzerland Takes Bronze in Last End Against Sweden, 5-4

In the bronze medal match in men’s curling, Switzerland stunned Sweden with two points in the final end to take the match, 5-4.

The final shot was a brilliantly placed stone from Ralph Stoeckli, who had been plagued by near-misses throughout the Olympiad. Here, his throw was true, and Sweden left two stones closest to the button--the second by roughly an inch--to deliver the bronze medal.

This, fortunately, spares all casual sports fans from an avalanche of “Stoeckli is Swiss for Shuster!” jokes; for that, the world is grateful. Swiss isn’t even a real language.
