Pocono Race Drives Man To Kill Pet Parrot

NASCAR events at Pocono Raceway have never been particularly compelling viewing, but the race there last June was apparently must-see TV for one man.

↵The Associated Press reported that 67-year-old Dennis Zeglin of New Jersey allegedly shot and killed his pet parrot (named “Mikey”) because it was screeching while he tried to watch the Pocono 500 on TV.

↵It’s unclear whether the parrot was simply trying to mimic TNT’s Bill Weber, but either way, it met an untimely end when Zeglin apparently shot the bird three times with a BB gun.

↵This is just another reason Pocono should not be on the NASCAR schedule: Not only are the races there too long, but they make people do crazy things.

↵Zeglin was indicted on animal cruelty charges yesterday and faces up to five years in prison. For the complete story, click here.
