West Virginia Fans Do Not Heed Huggins’ Message

This has to be said: West Virginia fans have been behaving ridiculously this college hoops season. When you watch their home games on TV, there’s no question they’re the most profane fan base you’ll see. (Most notably, quiet Ohio State superstar Evan Turner, who had come back sooner than anyone expected from a broken back, got a constant a-hole chant. Yeah, jerk! Quit showing off your Wolverine healing powers!) And when you keep doing that every game, you just look foolish. It loses the juice. Save something for the big games like the Backyard Brawl, otherwise it has no meaning. Oh, wait, that’d be a bad suggestion based on how Wednesday night’s game went.

To review, something gets thrown and Bob Huggins gets on the microphone and does his best Sam Wyche speech. End of issue. That usually quells these sorts of things. Wasn't to be in Morgantown, though.

Really, West Virginia fans? Really?

Despite the lack of grace from some in the stands, WVU won easily, 70-51.

And look, I know how WVU fans will react to this post. We've been down this road before. But the public perception has always been that the fans of the Mountaineers were a bit of a rowdy bunch. Throwing things at people on the floor -- even after being asked by your coach to stop -- vaults you into that vintage Philly territory. If WVU fans want to defend their fan base, police yourselves. Point these people out immediately before they get out of hand and have them tossed. Only then will the healing begin for West Virginia's public image. You've got a team with Final Four potential. Had that been a tight game, that technical foul could've been the difference. Those people embarrassing the fan base at large should probably think long and hard about what they want more: to win or to inflict pain on the opposition. And the passionate but civil fans around them should decide if they want these louts around to represent them.
