Over in the Missouri Valley Conference, Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois have been playing some of the worst offensive basketball I have ever seen. Okay, so that might be a little hyperbolic, but in the first half, both teams looked dead on their feet.
Northern Iowa-Southern Illinois: Meandering Into The Heart Of Offensive Malaise
↵The score at halftime was 18-18. Nothing ever seemed rushed; scoring didn’t seem like an objective so much as an incidental byproduct of hanging out on a basketball court. At least one barely-contested eight-foot jumper resulted in an airball. After whining about all this to my friend, he responded by asking me if they were playing on an open ship. They certainly aren’t, but they were playing like they had scurvy.
↵Fortunately (or unfortunately; to be honest I wanted to see how few points could be scored), scoring started picking up a few minutes into the second half. Welcome to the Missouri Valley Conference, where people occasionally shoot baskets.
