We know by now the New Orleans Saints are prepared to let Darren Sharper hit the free agent market at midnight on March 5th. They will not use the franchise tag on him.That means he’ll be free to shop himself to other teams possibly driving up the price for the 34-year old veteran.

However, it’s also possible he doesn’t find many suitors willing to pay him enough to leave New Orleans, according to Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Right now, from talking with sources we’d say there’s still a better-than-50 percent chance that Sharper will remain in New Orleans, but clearly the Saints are willing to risk letting him go if he finds a suitor that’s willing to pay more.
It’s an interesting market for a 34 year old safety who played such a role in the Saints Super Bowl run.
The spark he could bring to a team is noted, but it’s hard to get past his age. Let’s just say I wouldn’t bet on a 34 year old safety to improve his play. It’s possible (says Brett Favre), but probably not likely.
