Stunned by the fact that Mark McGwire used steroids -- because nobody could have seen that one coming -- the Missouri Senate has decided to rename a stretch of I-70 once named for the Cardinals slugger.
Missouri Senate Shocked That McGwire Used Steroids
↵The interstate was formerly known as Mark Twain Highway and would be renamed that, presumably because Mark Twain never used steroids or is at least too dead to admit it. The road was named for McGwire in 1999, after he hit 70 home runs in 1998.
↵The mess has the state’s lawmakers reconsidering their naming policies.
↵↵The bill also would name sections of a few other highways for noted Missourians.
↵Republican Sen. Kurt Schaefer of Columbia asked if those getting the honors were alive or dead. Schaefer says it might be wise to name roads only for the deceased, because they can’t do something worth changing the name over one day.
↵↵Or you could name all the roads after video game characters.
