MIS works with area schools to promote March is Reading Month

Irish Hills track offers NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race tickets as incentive for kids to read

BROOKLYN, Mich. (Feb. 26, 2010) — Read a book, get a chance to win a ticket to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway this June.

MIS is helping two area schools promote reading during “March is Reading Month” in the state of Michigan, offering tickets as incentive.

The speedway is working with two hometown schools — Brooklyn Elementary School in Brooklyn, Mich., and Onsted Middle School in Onsted, Mich. — to give school kids incentive to read. At Brooklyn Elementary, all kids who meet their reading goals for the entire month of March will be entered into a drawing for tickets to the June 13 Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 Sprint Cup Series race with multiple winners being selected. Additionally, all kids who read during the month will receive an MIS bookmark.

“I’m excited to read and maybe win tickets to the NASCAR race at MIS this summer so I can see my favorite driver Jeff Gordon,” Brooklyn Elementary third-grader Jeffrey Ronders said. “I love going to the races and reading books with my mom and dad so I’m planning on reading a lot during the month of March!”

At Onsted Middle School, located approximately seven miles south of MIS, a similar ticket drawing will take place at the end of March with specific classrooms being selected as winners for overall total reading for the month. MIS bookmarks will also be provided to all kids who participate.

“I love to read, especially when I’m reading with my children. So I take personal satisfaction in this program and encourage all kids to read during the month of March and beyond,” MIS President Roger Curtis said. “We’re trying to do our part to help a couple of area schools with our race tickets serving as an incentive for kids to read. It’s a nice reward for the kids and classrooms that are selected to get MIS Sprint Cup tickets, but in reality, all the kids who participate receive value in this by reading and learning.”

Affordable tickets, wider seats, larger infield campsites and earlier NASCAR Sprint Cup start times are just a few of the fan initiatives in place at MIS. Fans are celebrated year-round with the Fan Appreciation Program presented by LifeLock. Check out MISpeedway.com for details.

Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie. It’s the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike.
