One-Upping Lane Kiffin: Yes, It Can Be Done

â†µIt took chutzpah for Lane Kiffin to ditch Knoxville after just 14â†µmonths and a half-dozen-or-so secondary violations, but Coachâ†µDerp has nothing on a couple of recent NFL refugees who took oneâ†µlook at their new surroundings and darted right back to the NFL Fortressâ†µof Solitude. â†µ

â†µâ†µImprobable departureâ†µthe first:â†µ

â†µâ†µâ‡¥â†µâ‡¥George Edwards’ tenure as the Florida Gators defensive coordinatorâ†µâ‡¥sure didn’t last long.â†µâ‡¥
â†µâ‡¥â†µâ‡¥Less than a month after joining Urban Meyer’s staff, Edwards left oneâ†µâ‡¥of the nation’s top college programs on Thursday to become the Buffaloâ†µâ‡¥Bills defensive coordinator and be reunited with newly hired head coachâ†µâ‡¥Chan Gailey.â†µâ‡¥

â†µâ†µâ†µImprobable departureâ†µthe second: â†µ

â†µâ†µâ‡¥â†µâ‡¥Ron Turner wasn’t out of the NFLâ†µâ‡¥for long.â†µâ‡¥
â†µâ‡¥â†µâ‡¥Four weeks after becoming the offensive coordinator at Stanford,â†µâ‡¥Turner is back in the league, accepting a job on the Colts’â†µâ‡¥staff. It is believed Turner will become the wide receivers coach, butâ†µâ‡¥the team had yet to make an announcement.â†µâ‡¥

â†µâ†µâ†µWay to reach for the creative ledes, guys. â†µ

â†µâ†µAnyway, it’s possible that the spurned schools got off easy here:â†µthese guys ditched Gainesville and Palo Alto for Indianapolis andâ†µBuffalo. Also, Turner went from offensive coordinator to wide receiversâ†µcoach. They could be in the first stages of syphilitic dementia.â†µ(Kidding! Don’t send lawyers. Just take penicillin. Or don’t, because Iâ†µdidn’t mention it at all.)â†µ

â†µIf I was a guy who wrote single-sentence paragraphs and had a Veryâ†µSerious Photo I'd probably go on about the decline of society hereâ†µbut...â†µactually, isn't this kind of a societal decline? Surely these guys didâ†µnot take jobs intending to leave almost before a two-week notice couldâ†µeven be provided. And yet, there they go.â†µ

â†µâ†µIt probably comes down to money-even Florida’s unlikely to shell outâ†µwhat an NFL team will for a coordinator and Stanford is not exactlyâ†µpaying top dollar-just like everything does, but in my day people waitedâ†µaround for 14 long months before leaving their university in a lurchâ†µwith nothing to do but riotâ†µfestively and drawâ†µpenises on rocks (not that you have to be told, but that is as NSFW asâ†µa cave painting gets). â†µ

â†µâ†µKids these days have no respect, I tell you. No respect at all. â†µ
