Stephan Bonnar was appealing his loss to Krzystztof Soszynski on the grounds that the cut that led to the stoppage was caused by a headbutt. While the replays clearly backed up his claims he has now officially lost the appeal. From MMA Junkie:
Stephan Bonnar Loses Appeal
↵↵The Combat Sports Authority of New South Wales, which was tasked with regulating the February event in Sydeny, Australia, ruled this past Tuesday that the official result ruling the fight a TKO win in favor of Soszynski stands.
“A review was held ... and the Combat Sports Authority of NSW did not seek to interfere with the referee’s decision,” wrote Craig Waller, Executive Director of the Combat Sports Authority of New South Wales, in an email sent to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) late Tuesday night.
↵↵It is very, very difficult to get a commission to overturn a decision by one of their referees. This is why instant replay was put into effect in Las Vegas, for just these cases. In Vegas the ref can make his decision and then check the monitors to see if a fight ends on a foul or legal blow and then make the decision there. I’m assuming Australia does not have these same rules, and as such a ref’s decision is almost always going to be final.
