↵...but as you may notice, the shot clock had gone all goose-eggy before he released the ball. The shot clock buzzed, but the points counted. Maryland promptly took it back down the floor without calling a timeout, and by the time the refs finally appeared to discuss the play, it was too late to take any action. Georgia Tech’s two-point lead eventually required Maryland to start fouling, etc., etc., ballgame.
↵So while this isn’t the reason Georgia Tech won, it was certainly a game-changer. Personally, I think that the rulebook should allow this anyway. If the player’s in the air with the ball, then the ball is in the air, and the shot clock shouldn’t matter, right? That’s how it worked in NBA Jam, anyway.
