Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that the Browns have traded quarterback Brady Quinn to the Denver Broncos.
Reports: Browns trade Brady Quinn, Kamerion Wimbley
In return the Browns will receive backup running back Peyton Hillis and two conditional draft choices.
Quinn became expendable when the Browns signed quarterback Jake Delhomme to a two-year contract on Saturday.
Denver selected Hillis in the seventh round of the 2008 draft. Hillis played in 14 games last season, rushing for 54 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries. He caught four passes for 19 yards.
Update: Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the picks are a sixth-round pick in the 2011 draft and a late-round pick in the 2012 draft.
Update 2: Adam Caplan of Scout.com and Sirius satellite radio is reporting that the Browns have traded outside linebacker Kamerion Wimbley to the Oakland Raiders. In exchange, Caplan says the Browns will receive an undisclosed draft choice.
Update 3: Now that the dust is settling (and I’ve cleaned up after dinner), here’s the low-down. Quinn wanted out of Cleveland and already sold his house. The fact that he wanted out wouldn’t be the starter even if he was brought back had some negative affect on what the Browns could get for him.
Thus, Denver gets a steal by not giving up any picks in a deep 2010 draft. Further, perhaps Broncos coach Josh McDaniels thinks that he can do with Quinn what he did to Matt Cassel in New England.
The pick in the Wimbley deal may be a third, according to Chris Mortensen. Even though Wimbley was much-improved last season, that would be a solid trade for Cleveland.
Still, you have to wonder why these two were just given up on – especially Quinn. As a Browns fan, this should hurt. Instead, it seems to be business as usual with the team taking steps backward and zero forward.
