Dear Baseball: Stop Trading Players, You’re Confusing Topps

In an effort to get cards of star players in their new uniforms out early, Topps takes players who were traded in the offseason and Photoshops them into their new team’s uniform. (Back in the good ol days, these came in the form of the Topps Traded Set, which was the greatest Christmas present ever, every year.) This year, Topps made two such Photoshop’d cards for Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay, who as you may have heard now play for the Mariners and Phillies, respectively.

↵Both cards didn’t turn out so well.

↵First, here’s Lee’s card:

↵Note the “HK” on the jersey, for Harry Kalas, a patch only the Phillies wore all of last season. A relatively minor oversight, we admit, plus there’s nothing wrong with paying extra tribute to Kalas.

↵The Halladay card, however, is much more egregious:

↵You know who else wore No. 32 for the Phillies? Steve Carlton. You know who else will wear No. 32 for the Phillies? No one. Because it’s retired. Halladay will wear No. 34.
