When we elect our country’s representatives, we do so because we expect them to, you know, actually get productive stuff done. Sometimes, though, they fight over really silly things.
House Republicans Aren’t Rooting For Maryland
↵This little squabble, as reported by the Washington Post, is one of those silly things. According to the Post, 132 members of the House of Representatives voted against a resolution that merely congratulated the Maryland Terrapins on having a successful season. These resolutions seem pretty common and are usually passed without any problems, because they’re resolutions about sports and representatives should know they have more important things to do.
↵But not so with this one. California Rep. John Campbell (R) was upset because a similar resolution congratulating the UC-Irvine national champion men’s volleyball team was pulled, and 129 other republicans joined him. This prompted the spokesperson for Rep. Steny Hoyer (D), the one who initially proposed the resolution, to issue this zinger.
↵↵“Republicans are staying true to their ‘Party of No’ doctrine: Whether it’s health care, job creation, or basketball, Republicans aren’t for anything.”
↵↵Politics, ladies and gentlemen!
