Lance Armstrong Is Not A Fan of Tony Kornheiser’s Bicycle Humor

Tony Kornheiser hasn’t had the best few weeks on radio. The ironic thing is that he isn’t doing anything different than he’s done his entire career. Kornheiser, as you know, was suspended for two weeks from ESPN for comments about Hannah Storm’s wardrobe that he made on his ESPN-affiliated radio show in Washington D.C. Despite that being part of Tony’s schtick for decades – this is the same radio show that has called fellow ESPN anchor Linda Cohn “twelve toes” for years with no suspension or reprimand from ESPN – Kornheiser was asked to watch what he says in the future, specifically when talking about ESPN employees.↵↵Flash forward to today, when Kornheiser caught the ire of someone a wee bit more high profile than Storm or Cohn. Lance Armstrong was sent a rant from Kornheiser’s March 11th radio show when Tony and his crew discussed the new proposal for center bike lanes down Pennsylvania Avenue. Kornheiser, as he has done for years, took the opportunity to rip cyclists for hogging the road. He even, jokingly, suggested motorists run the bikes off the street and “just tap them, don’t kill them.” Trust me, much like the wardrobe situation, this is not a new theme on Kornheiser’s show.↵

↵↵Someone sent the clip to Armstrong, who tweeted: ↵

↵↵⇥Tony Kornheiser on cyclists on the road, “run ‘em down”. Really? Big mistake, Tony.↵↵Armstrong also called Kornheiser “disgusting, ignorant, foolish,” and “a complete f-ing idiot.” He later tweeted out the link to listen to that episode of the show. But don’t bother clicking the link, because the episode isn’t there anymore. ↵↵ESPN980 has taken down March 11th’s episode of the Tony Kornheiser show, in what seems like a preemptive strike by Kornheiser and company to nip this situation in the bud before it becomes something bigger than it needs to be. You know, like a few weeks ago. ↵

↵

↵The Tour de France champ did tweet out the ESPN980 contact form, which was undoubtedly inundated with angry emails. The ESPN980 feed replied by tweeting about the newfound interest:↵

↵↵⇥@ESPNRadio980 - Hoping to be a Trending Topic Worldwide today, keep your fingers crossed...↵↵This didn’t exactly excite Armstrong, who shot back on his Twitter feed:↵↵⇥How douchebags apologize... RT @ESPNRadio980: … ↵↵Needless to say, ESPN980, which did not suspend Kornheiser after his comments about Storm when the Bristol campus levied their decision to take Tony off PTI for two weeks, may feel differently about getting called out by someone of Lance Armstrong’s fame and influence. Then again, as Kornheiser repeated on his show today, it’s comedy. Nobody wants any bikes run down. But Tony Hawk may want to listen in case he goes after skateboarders tomorrow.↵
