Back in January, Cornell was the cause celebre of the basketball cognoscenti. The Big Red nearly knocked off Kansas on the road, boasting a team of deadly three-point shooters, anchored by a bevy of seniors. They were basically the trendy indie rock band hoops hipsters everywhere looked forward to tabbing as a sleeper in March.
Cornell ‘Upsets’ Temple, Even More People Jump On Bandwagon
↵But then Cornell became mainstream. They cracked the top-25 for the first time in school history. And come tournament time, even ESPN’s Jay Bilas picked them to make the Elite Eight. In fact, they became such a chic upset pick that roundball aficionados everywhere who’d been fans since the beginning dumped the Big Red in favor of the new hotness, Temple (who were themselves underseeded).
↵And now? After easily dispatching the Owls, Cornell is headed for a second round matchup against Wisconsin, who were lucky to escape plucky Wofford. Looks like the bandwagon might need to get ready for quite a few more fans.
