Olney: Mauer, Twins Nearing Deal?

It’s been nearly two months since Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins were first reported to be “close” to reaching a contract agreement. Now, ESPN’s Buster Olney is reporting via Twitter that the two sides are once again closing in on a multi-year deal.

Ron Shapiro, the agent for Joe Mauer, was seeat the Ft. Myers airport a few minutes ago— the latest in a series of indications that Mauer and the Twins are getting closer to concluding a multi-year deal. Wouldn’t be surprised to hear an announcement any day now.

No surprises here. Despite what’s been said and reported, there was little chance the Twins were about to let their golden boy go free. And besides, try picturing Joe Mauer in any other uniform other than the Minnesota pinstripes. It’s just… no.
