Remember when Memphis went to the Final Four in 2008, and recorded 38 wins? Pretty neat, right? Now, pretend like it never happened.
Time To Act Like The 2007-08 Memphis Season Never Happened
↵↵Memphis must vacate its record 38-win men’s basketball season from 2007-08 after the NCAA rejected its appeal.
↵The NCAA announced Monday that its Infractions Appeal Committee ruled against Memphis, which was found to use an ineligible player, believed to be Derrick Rose. The Tigers lost in overtime to Kansas in the national title game that season.
↵↵The ruling had originally come in August, and Monday’s decision was the result of a failed appeal by the university.
↵This means that Memphis’ 38-2 record will forever have an asterisk accompanying it, they’ll have to pay back approximately $615,000 and the banner hanging from the rafters will have to come down.
↵Also, John Calipari now has the rather dubious honor of being the only head coach to have Final Fours vacated at two separate schools (UMass being the other). Don’t say you weren’t warned, Kentucky fans.
