If you think Kentucky’s going to stop chasing controversial recruits under John Calipari, think again. John Wall was just the beginning. Today, the ’Cats landed a committment from a top European prospect, Enes Kanter:
Kentucky Lands Turkish Star Kanter, And The Rich Get Richer
↵
↵Because of John Calipari," Kanter told Daniels when asked why UK. "He’s a good coach. I like the way he plays. I like the freedom." [...]
↵During his senior season, Kanter had one game with 50 points and 20 rebounds. Last weekend he put up 24 points and 18 rebounds up in a matchup against Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep and Texas signee Tristan Thompson, one of the elite players nationally in the Class of 2010.
↵There are some questions regarding his potential eligibility. Kanter played for a professional club in Turkey before coming to the U.S., but he reportedly played without being paid.
↵
↵When we say “the rich get richer” we’re not saying Kanter is getting richer, of course. He played for Turkey’s top pro team, yes, but since he played for a professional team “without getting paid” he definitely didn’t get rich. And he definitely didn’t turn down a $2 million offer from Greek powerhouse Olympiacos because he could make more at Kentucky. We’re totally not saying that.
↵But Calipari’s legions of critics definitely will.
