On March 5, 2004, the Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators took part in the NHL’s biggest brawl ever. It was the most penalty minutes handed out in a single game (417) along with 21 fighting majors and 20 game misconducts. The bad blood escalated again on Tuesday as Simon Gagne didn’t take kindly to Anton Volchenkov’s physicality and decided he’d had enough.

↵Gagne received a total of 19 minutes in penalties and Ottawa got a seven-minute powerplay from it. Although they couldn’t score, they would hold off Philadelphia by a 2-0 final. The Flyers forward did turn his back to Volchenkov at the last second but considering how many concussions Gagne has endured in his career, his frustrations were understandable.
