2010 NFL Mock Draft, Pick 3: Bucs Select Gerald McCoy, DT Oklahoma

The third pick is in and SB Nation’s Bucs community, Buc ‘Em, has selected...

Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy

From Buc ‘Em:

The Choice of Gerald McCoy is a simple one. The Bucs were worst in the league against the run last year, and have not consistently rushed the QB since the departure of Warren Sapp in 2003.

From Mocking The Draft:

The same explanation given for Detroit could be given for Tampa Bay. The team needs defensive line help, and McCoy should quickly become a starter.

When picking at the top of the NFL draft, teams generally try to address quarterback and left tackle, if necessary.

In the Bucs case, they have both of those positions wrapped up. That makes Gerald McCoy the most logical choice. Like Ndamukong Suh, great defensive tackles don’t come along very often so you have to take one when you can.

Be sure to check out the full write-up where Buc ‘Em goes into detail the reason why McCoy makes the most sense in the Bucs scheme.
