Great news for MMA and its progression towards mainstream acceptance.
‘MMA Live’ Makes Jump To ESPN2
↵ESPN.com’s ‘MMA Live’ has been picked up by ESPN2 in the form of a weekly, 30-minute news show.
↵MMAmania.com broke the news last night:
↵↵ESPN’s wildly successful Web show “MMA Live” is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
↵MMAmania.com has learned that host Jon Anik, along with analysts Franklin McNeil and Kenny Florian, will soon bring their mixed martial arts news, highlights and analysis to the world’s biggest sports network on ESPN2.
↵No precise details are known at this time, but the half-hour show is expected to air on Thursday afternoons -- new episodes are typically made available online on a weekly basis at this time.
↵↵The importance of ESPN making more of a commitment to mixed martial arts is obvious. The sports media giant is called the “Worldwide Leader” for a reason.
↵And I’m sure the decision to run with an all MMA show was analyzed thoroughly by the people in power, which bodes well for the future of the sport and any further relationship that may develop between mixed martial arts and ESPN.
↵My personal hunch, if, and when the UFC makes the jump to network television, look for ESPN and their programming partner ABC to be the landing spot.
