Ohio State’s Dallas Lauderdale bricked two free throws -- and badly -- early in Friday night’s game against Tennessee, which isn’t a huge surprise given the forward’s 41.7% from the line this season. Remarkably, he’s made 77% of his field goals attempts, though admittedly it’s kind of hard to miss if you’re 6’8” and one foot from the basket.
Meet Dallas Lauderdale, The Ben Wallace Of College
↵The truly remarkable thing isn’t that Lauderdale misses so many free throws, but how he bricks them. They graze the front of the rim and drop straight down. They smack flush against the front of the rim and bounce straight back to him. They spin off the back of the rim and somehow fly out to the left.
↵It’s like someone told him, “look, Dallas, we need to repaint the rim, but we’re a little short on supplies, so here is a basketball we just dipped in paint.” If he can somehow manage to brick the ball straight forward so that it crashes through the backboard, he will have exhausted all possible angles from which to brick a basketball off the rim. For now, though, let’s enjoy this remarkable display of performance art.
