Sure there’s passion in American sports. And occasionally we’ll come across an exchange between a player and an official that goes beyond the realm of good sportsmanship. But nothing in America comes close to this, as a referee in Brazil’s Serie D needed to call police onto the pitch to escort an ejected player to the locker room. That’s when chaos ensued. In Brazil, When A Red Card Isn’t Enough, Get the Pepper Spray
↵↵The fracas between players and police started when Robson, a player for Genus, refused to leave the pitch after getting sent-off by the referee. Robson and four other Genus players berated the official, who summoned police to help diffuse the situation. Obviously, that didn’t work so well.↵
↵↵The match was suspended and slated to be replayed at a later date. But the president of Genus, whose team was trailing Moto Clube 3-0 at the time of the incident, asked that the result stand. In addition, Robson, six other Genus players and the coach of the team have all resigned following the incident.↵
↵↵As for the police, Sky Sports reports that officials will look into the matter to see if, possibly, the officers went a little overboard:↵
↵↵⇥Rondonia State Vice-Governor, Joao Cahula, has promised to investigate the incident.↵⇥↵⇥“I will talk to the Police Chief to take all measures necessary,” he said. “If the policemen overreacted, they will be punished for that.”↵⇥
