2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 13

The 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft is underway, with each SB Nation blogger making selections for their respective teams. Fooch, lead blogger at SB Nation's San Francisco 49ers blog, Niners Nation, checks in to make the No. 13 overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away, sir!

With the No. 13 overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the San Francisco 49ers have selected Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma.

Fooch says: The breakdown of this draft removed several distinct possibilities for the 49ers and put them in a position where they might potentially trade back from the 13th pick. However, the team has sufficient needs that they might be able to meet at 13. The biggest concern last season surrounded the offensive line. The 49ers o-line has talented players like Joe Staley and Eric Heitmann, and has a young up-and-comer in Chilo Rachal. However, the right tackle position has been a bit of an abyss aside from Joe Staley’s rookie season.

OT Trent Williams is a guy who brings up some fairly divergent opinions among 49ers fans. Some love him, some hate him, and some are mildly indifferent. Nonetheless, he is a big bodied offensive tackle that would get a shot to compete for the starting right tackle position from day 1. Among mock drafts, the most common selection for the 49ers has been Trent Williams at #13. Whether it’s an inspiring pick is one thing, but it certainly has the potential to fill a need.

Probably the most common alternate pick at this spot is Clemson RB C.J. Spiller. The 49ers have talent on offense, but Spiller could provide big-time playmaking skills both on offense and special teams. The 49ers return units were fairly abysmal for much of last season and Spiller could step in to start in the return game, while providing a unique option at running back behind Frank Gore and Glen Coffee.

Mocking Dan reacts: I love this pick. If you need reason to love it as well, watch any Oklahoma games from 2008. When Williams played right tackle, there was arguably no better offensive lineman in the country. Right tackle might not be a sexy pick, but for a team on the verge, it’s a great one.

Mocking the Draft’s Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - C.J. Spiller/RB/Clemson, 2 - Derrick Morgan/DE/Georgia Tech, 3 - Dez Bryant/WR/Oklahoma State, 4 - Everson Griffen/DE/USC, 5 - Jermaine Gresham/TE/Oklahoma
