Chad Gaudin Returns To Yankees After Getting Released By Oakland

Earlier this spring, the Yankees waived Chad Gaudin after he lost the battle for the last spot in the rotation. Now, two months later, he’s going back to New York:

No corresponding roster move has been announced. Gaudin will expected to fill in a number of fifth and sixth innings.

Righty Chad Gaudin signed with the A’s in late March, an addition to a bullpen that, at the time, was more than a little banged up. The relievers are starting to come back, though, and with Gaudin sporting an 8.83 ERA through 17.1 innings, he became expendable. Gaudin was designated for assignment on Sunday, and was formally released Friday afternoon.

Gaudin did manage to rack up 20 strikeouts against just five walks. However, he also allowed five home runs - four in his last two appearances - and he just no longer had a role. He should catch on with another organization before long, but the 27 year old has only seen his stock fall further, and his inability to pitch well to lefties will likely keep him from ever again seeing significant time in a big league rotation.
