Kennington matched NASCAR career high in NCWTS debut‏

DJ Kennington has 45 races under his belt in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with a career high finish of 17th at Talladega. In his debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Kennington matched that career high at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday.

DJK started the Kroger 250, in the 35th place position after rain cancelled qualifying, and battled through traffic while pole sitter and eventual winner, Kevin Harvick set sail on the rear of the field.

On lap 44, Harvick caught Kennington’s #6 Northern Provincial Pipelines Chevy putting him one lap down. Shortly after, the caution flag waved allowing the Canadian native to get his lap back, that’s when the trouble started.

"Everyone was so spread out that by the time I got the wave around, the leader was already in turn three," stated DJ. By the time Kennington hit his pit stall, the lap he just got back was lost and after changing tires and returning to the track, Harvick was on his tail in the backstretch.

"That’s one of those things with a short track and a large field, if they aren’t bunched up, there is little time to make adjustments."

Kennington rallied the rest of the event, dodging spinning trucks and debris. "I really enjoyed racing the RWR truck this weekend. I learned a lot about these things as the race went on. The entrance and exit is so crucial and a quite a bit different than the Nationwide and Canadian Tire Series cars I have raced in the past."

DJK finished the day in 17th, matching his career high in one of the Top 3 NASCAR Series. "I look forward to racing with the team again. Right now I have to get my Castrol 17 Canadian Tire Series team rolling so I need to head up north but I’m looking forward to returning in May. I want to thank Northern Provincial Pipeline, Dwight Kennedy and Rick Ware for a great weekend, and we will do it again soon!"
