Around AL Central Spring Training, 3/30: Tigers Ship Nate Robertson South to Florida
Tigers: The Tigers make the biggest news of the afternoon, trading SP Nate Robertson to Florida, in exchange for relief pitcher Jay Voss. As our own Jeff Sullivan writes, the implication here is that the Tigers will give Dontrelle Willis another shot in the starting rotation. The Tigers have also sent an unspecified amount of cash south to Miami, to help cover part of Robertson’s salary. Amazingly, there was an anti-Robertson blog out there, and it did manage to get a farewell post up rather quickly. Jeremy Bonderman has also made the rotation.
Royals: The Royals are reportedly interested in Jarrod Washburn, as questions remain about the composition of their Opening Day roster. As Royals Authority points out, Dayton Moore’s preferred negotiating tool is to offer players an extra year, raising the possibility that Washburn can pitch poorly for the Royals in 2010 and 2011.
