Patriots ‘Love’ Penn State DE Jared Odrick

Last September the Patriots traded Richard Seymour who played defensive end in their 3-4 defense. A lot of folks have them eyeing another 3-4 defensive end in the upcoming NFL draft.

According to WEEI in Boston, that defensive end could be Jared Odrick, who the Patriots ‘love’.

SB Nation’s Black Shoe Diaries calls him a good fit in the 3-4.

He may be a bit on the small side to play the middle in the league which leads many to believe he would be a perfect fit at defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, but he may lack the explosiveness to be an effective pass rusher off the edge.

While he may be a good fit in the scheme, Odrick might lack one of the key components of a Patriots draft pick -- leadership. Black Shoe Diaries explains:

He is a very physically imposing presence, and when he speaks he commands the attention of his teammates, but those moments seemed to be few and far between. He wasn’t named team captain, and I can’t recall a single tale of Odrick rousing his teammates with a dramatic speech.

Odrick was once cited for throwing a punch in a late night altercation at PSU but, according to several reports, he was baited into doing it (not that that makes it better).

Thanks to Black Shoe Diaries for the detailed information on Odrick.
