2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 23

The 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft rolls on, with each SB Nation blogger making selections for their respective teams. Brandon, lead blogger at SB Nation's Green Bay Packers blog, Acme Packing Company, checks in to make the No. 23 overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away, sir!

With the No. 23 overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Green Bay Packers have selected Sergio Kindle, outside linebacker, Texas.

Brandon says: It might be my dream draft if the Packers sit at No. 23 and are able to select Texas LB Sergio Kindle. It wouldn't hurt to add a cornerback or offensive tackle, but replacing the pass rush provided by Aaron Kampman should be their No. 1 priority. In this scenario, OT Anthony Davis is still available too, but his recent pro day absence has raised some real concerns, and appropriately, he's sliding down draft boards. I'm less concerned about offensive tackle for 2010 since they kept veteran free agent tackles Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher for at least one more season. They'll draft a tackle at some point, but now they don't have to reach.

There is some lobbying at Acme Packing Company for TCU’s Jerry Hughes, who has nearly identical combine and/or pro day results, but his transition to playing in space as a linebacker apparently hasn’t looked too smooth according to some reports. For that reason, I’m going with Kindle, who also could become a pass rushing terror but played linebacker in college.

Mocking Dan reacts: If the Packers decide that those offensive tackles are good enough – and I’m not sure they are – another pass rusher is a good fit. But to pass on someone like Anthony Davis is kind of surprising.

But if pass rusher is the pick, Kindle is a good one. He’s much more physical than Hughes and more of a sure thing. He can also put his hand down, which would give Green Bay another look for its defense.

Mocking the Draft's Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - Everson Griffen/DE/USC, 2 - Jermaine Gresham/TE/Oklahoma, 3 - Anthony Davis/OT/Rutgers, 4 - Ryan Mathews/RB/Fresno State, 5 - Charles Brown/OT/USC

Sound off, SB Nation! What say you of Green Bay’s selection of OLB Sergio Kindle? Please be sure to check out Acme Packing Company for all of your Packers needs.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
